Tell us a little about yourself?

In my professional life, I wear a lot of hats. My primary job is running Keslar Insurance in the Mill with my husband, David. We love working with all the variety of customers whether it is to support them with personal insurance like home, auto or life or working with business owners to offer liability policies, worker’s compensation, commercial auto or other products as they need. We love providing value and being a local contact. In addition to that, I am so fortunate to be the President of the Newmarket business association. I love contributing to this organization and seeing how far we’ve come. I have a passion for community and volunteering. And I like to be busy and give back any way I can. As a result I also Secretary for the Exeter Area Chamber, a member of the Communications Committee for the New Hampshire Women’s Foundation and a board member for the Oyster River Otter’s Swim team. I also am an adjunct Faculty member and a Faculty Team lead for SNHU in their Marketing department. I love all the diversity of my professional day.

When I’m not running all over the area for work, I have three wonderful kids who are 17, 15 and 12 respectively. It is such a fun time to see them start getting into their own passions and interests. We have two adorable Labs- a yellow, Scout and a black, Lily. They really complete our family!
My favorite day is the first day of snow! I really think it should be a holiday in NH! It always brings me such joy! I love the outdoors and try to spend time at the lake whenever I can.

Why did you join the NBA? The Board?

Joining the NBA was such a natural thing for me. I really love working on ways to support local and small business. As a small business and family business owner myself, I see the importance of building community for all of us and our neighbors. I am so impressed by the quality of our members and their businesses. I have not only met some great people to network with, but I now have so many new real friends with whom I can work on things to support community in town!

How long have you been part of the NBA? The Board?

I’ve only been part of the NBA for a couple of years. It’s been such a thrilling time to be a part of it as we’ve experienced so much growth. We have great energy, commitment and momentum. I can’t wait to see where it goes in the years ahead!

What do you like best about the NBA?

I certainly can’t pick one thing! Our members are fabulous. They engage, participate and cooperate. This makes the organization and the community better for all: members, non-member businesses and residents. We have a very workable structure that strives to support every member as best as we can for an all volunteer organization. We have great events and benefits all at a very affordable cost. That’s just a few things. I could go on and on!

What do you hope to accomplish as an NBA board member going forward?

I hope we continue with our momentum. And I fully expect us to do so. We have an amazing board who all go above and beyond to support the community in which they work each day!
I’d like to see us keep up with our regular networking events. I’d like to see us continue to try new things to provide value to our members through education, networking, marketing etc. I’d like to see us get to over 125 members, my personal goal when I started. At that time we had about 45 members and now we are certainly well over 100 so 125 is just around the corner! i’d like to see if we can get some of those members who haven’t taken advantage of all the NBA has to offer to start to do so and those who haven’t joined yet also do so. The more substantial the NBA is, the more resources, credibility and influence we have to work with organizations like the Town and surrounding communities to continue to provide value for all of Newmarket- businesses and residents.

What do you like about Newmarket?

There is just a great “feel” when you are in town. It’s still cool and small, but full of a great mix of the old and the new. Newmarket has so many great amenities that provide value for residents as well as people from other communities who come and spend money here. We have a robust and diverse group of restaurants. We now have several great shops where you can find great things for you and for gifts- it is a destination now! We have other b-to-b and b-to-c businesses which all contribute to the strength of the town including providing jobs, providing employees who spend money in town. We also have beautiful buildings. Our offices are in the Mills- and I smile every day when I walk in and see the history and current day come together on every floor. But most importantly Newmarket has a sense of community that you don’t find in every town. Newmarket residents love this town. They support each other. They want good things for their neighbors. Many have lived her for generations- or hope to stay for generations. It really makes it a special place.

What do you think are some of the promising opportunities for the NBA?

Too many to share! We have a TON of things we can do as we get more and more people to contribute. We are only as strong as our volunteers- and thank goodness we have many. I hope anyone who has an interest reaches out to a board member, a business member or comes to our events. I think it is readily apparent once you have a relationship with this that the NBA is the place to be right now if you are a business. There is a great deal of good on the horizon for our members and the town!
