An Ideal Partnership: The Newmarket Recreation Department and the NBA

The Newmarket Business Association feels very fortunate to have a special relationship with the Newmarket Recreation Department! While many Chambers of Commerce plan and host successful community gatherings, such events heavily tax the organizations’ limited resources, including money, time and volunteers. This has been observed in most local Chambers and Business Associations.

Newmarket, however, is blessed with ¬†an amazing Recreation Department. Led by the wonderful Aimee Gigandet, the department puts on numerous activities for the entire community throughout the year. The rec department specifically strives to find ways to incorporate the Downtown area, with the goal of driving traffic to our Main Street membership and other businesses. We sincerely appreciate Aimee’s long running and thoughtful commitment to contributing to a thriving downtown!

The Recreation Department has the resources to really make these events great. They have staff, access to equipment, and marketing lists to build awareness. If you think of all the great events (Arts in the Park, Splash and Dash, Merry Main Street, Easter Egg hunt, Halloween Haunt and more), they add up to highly successful events available to our residents and families, the envy of many of the towns in the Seacoast region.

As an all-volunteer organization, the NBA doesn’t always have the people resources to operate these events. Instead, the NBA is very happy to support them through sponsorship. The Rec Department can make the events robust, allowing the NBA membership to ¬†benefit from more people coming into town, since a dynamic and thriving town can help many of our businesses. As important, it makes it a great place to live and work. Everyone wins with this very special and unique partnership.

At the same time, because the Rec Department hosts all these great community-wide galas, gatherings and soirees, the NBA is able to focus on happenings that are not being hosted by any other organization including: the business-to-business events, such as after-hours networking, lunch meetings, and educational programs. In doing so, we can meet the needs of many of our constituencies: our members who sell to consumers on Main Street, our members who sell business to business, our larger members and our smaller members.

We are always open to finding ways to provide more value to the community and our business owner membership. In the meantime, we continue to be grateful for the support of the Newmarket Recreation Department and are proud to partner with them on a myriad of events going forward.
