The town of Newmarket, NH has recently been improving pedestrian safety along its Main Street by renovating the crosswalks. During this construction period, some Newmarket businesses have experienced a 10-20% decrease in business due to the corresponding temporary traffic pattern which has reduced both the number of vehicles that travel through Main Street, as well as the number of on street parking spots.
As a response to that challenge, the Newmarket businesses along with the Newmarket Business Association, have put together an aggressive campaign to build awareness for all of the local businesses impacted by the situation. This campaign utilizes the hashtag “#ISupportNewmarketBusinesses” The stores, restaurants and other retailers will have stickers stating this slogan which they will share with all customers, encouraging them to take and share photos of their support for the local businesses. The goal is to get the businesses and customers talking about the Newmarket businesses both through word of mouth and social media sharing. The campaign will be actively shared by the Newmarket Business Association. The organization is working with local press, local agencies and other organizations to get the word out that the businesses are open and ready to serve.
“Now is a great time to visit Newmarket and experience some of the amazing businesses we have in town. The restaurants have fairly open seating. The gift shops have amazing products. There is plenty of parking in the town’s municipal lot, just up the street, a very quick walk from most of the action. With all the great fall weather, we encourage everyone to come, enjoy and share that Newmarket is an exciting destination to visit, right now!” said Brendan Jorgensen, President of the Newmarket Business Association. “We know it’s been frustrating for everyone, and we truly appreciate their patience these past few weeks. I think it’s great that the businesses are pulling together to promote themselves during the construction. Hopefully it’s something that it continues well after the construction is finished.” stated Steve Fournier, Town Adminstrator for the Town of Newmarket.
